Energy let's us do work and is needed for many machines. It cannot be touched. It is measured in joules (j).
Energy is in many different forms and can be transformed from one to another.
These are some of them:
Chemical Potential Energy - energy that is stored between atoms. Found in petrol and food.
Electrical Energy - movement of charged particles. Found in wires, generators and lightning.
Gravitational Potential Energy - energy stored in objects because of the height above the ground.
Heat energy - caused by the movements of the atoms. Found in all hot objects.
Light Energy - energy of electromagnetic waves. Found in visible light.
Sound Energy - energy produced by vibrating objects.
Kinetic Energy - Energy caused by movement including cars, and other moving things.
Elastic Potential Energy - stored in stretched and squashed objects. Found in springs and rubber bands.
